Adium X 0.89.1 is now available. While 0.89 was intended to be the last release of the 0.8x release cycle, a recent increase in preventable ICQ Authorization spam has prompted this bugfix release. ICQ "web aware" mode has now been turned off; it was responsible for a significant portion of the authorization request spam many ICQ users were receiving.
Adium X 0.89.1 also updates the Sametime library code (libmeanwhile), fixes a common problem with Applescripting account status, and fixes a problem with the Dutch localization.
Finally, with this release we welcome Turkish speakers to the international Adium community with a Turkish localization. :)

So did you finally realize that having the target for the next release of Adium somewhere near 2007 was unrealistic and that a fair amount of Adium users don't even need AIM support? Are you going to release updates and new features, using the trick of the x.y.z naming so you never actually arrive to 0.9? That's lame, but better than no update I guess.
Free software is about "release early, release often", not about "the next year we'll have this wonderful thing, just wait and wait". I Hope nobody has forgotten that.
And yes, I'm a disappointed user.

The disappointed user should look at the project's roadmap to get a clearer picture on the development process, and just how steady the development process is going.

Free software is about one or more developers sacrificing their time and money to develop a useful application and provide it to a community of both grateful and ungrateful users at absolutely no cost to the end users. I Hope nobody has forgotten that.
Theres been a damn sight more progress and updates with Adium than with MSN messenger, and I wonder what the difference in budget is!.... enough said
if you have a problem with adium's development pace you could stop complaining and actually help out... there's an idea! and if you're really that disappointed why don't you use a better client instead? (what's that? you couldn't find one?...)
I personally think the developers did a great and timely job to address this recent problem. Thanks for the time and hard work!
I think I speak for 99.99% of the adium community when I say "Great job guys, keep up the good work!"
(and I'm sure many of us would be more than willing to help out if we had the technical know-how)

I agree with the first post, but this is a problem with open source software in general. No point complaining, just a sad reality.
Anonymous posters 2 through 8: Thanks! :)
Anonymous poseters 1 and 9: Asinine. Adium 1.0 isn't something we can release piecemeal. We've been working on it for over a year now, in parallel with the 0.8x releases.

I love Adium, and I think the ICQ bugfix is really good.
I hope one of the next versions will support heavier security, like the original ICQ client (receive only from people in your list, stuff like that).
Keep up the good work!

Well, I for one can wait for the 1.0 release if it means there'll be time for some sort of compatible VC protocol can be agreed on and included (although I keep my expectations low). This is the single major reason I've seen people flocking to the aMSNs and Mercuries of the world.
In another note, iChat supports Google's avatars. It seems Adium doesn't. I'm guessing it's some standard if iChat can see them. I guess it's planned but I thought I ought to mention it.

Well after using Adiium for almost 6 months .. i hardly say that i am dissapointed .. After downloading the latest vesion .. I have problems on connecting to Msn and Icq .. It comes up with a message saying " Gaim Error " and it disconnects me .. and as for the Msn .. among with that error message opens another window with the message . " Connection error from Notification server (messenger.hotmail.com):
Reading error "
Any suggestions for the reason .. ..
Any suggestions on how am i going to resolve that .. ?
The Yahoo works fine ..

Guys, the comments section is for comments. Please use the support system for feature requests and bug reports.
eduo: Jabber avatars is indeed a standard (which iChat established), and that standard is already supported in Adium 1.0.

Is anyone else having a problem with the newest release acting very very slow. And having extremely delayed typing time?
Hey I'm probably one of many people who think Adium is fantastic. People moan about the time its taking for Adium 1.0 to come out so is there anyway people can help out? I think it would be great if there was a place in the support & development section where things that need to be sorted out can be posted so people can test them and speed up the development process
I can't believe anyone can say Adium development is too slow - I wish most other groups released versions and beta versions as fast as the Adium guys do.
Well done, congrats on getting so far - and I hope it goes as smoothly as possibly until 1.0 :D

I am so in love with Adium!!! I think it's a great little program, and I thank the developers for spending their time and energy on making my life easier...And for fixing the ICQ thing (that was getting annoying).
Keep up the good work....

Is anyone having problems with e-mail notification? Ever since I uploaded the new version, I no longer get any e-mail notification, eventhough it is set that way. I have tried re-downloading and also changing preferences to not doing email updates, quitting, then changing it back, and nothing works. It worked great until I uploaded the new version! HELP!
Thanks!
Thanks!
I love Adium, but I have just one little problem. Your option to log on with the status "Invisible" does not work. I've tried it a few times and folks can still see me. It's very frustrating. Thank you for doing everything you've already done, but if you could fix this i'd be ecstatic.
Thanks!
Thanks!
this is not the support forum. if you want support, click the tab that says Support & Development. KTHXBYE.
it would be good if we could add friends who are using other apps like .mac aol hotmail, etc without us having to have an account as well. As it is Adium only allows you to add yourself and only those who use the same app as you, kind of pointless if you ask me
anonymous above me, that's simply false. You can add anybody who is using the same IM service, and you can add any number of services within Adium. I have friends on Windows, Linux, and other Mac clients such as iChat and MSN.
Would love it if Adium alerted me of file transfer requests in the chat window instead of (or even as well as) that pop up window. I usually have Safari open when I get a sudden file transfer, so it stays hidden, and the alert is too quiet to be heard while I'm listening to music.
If this could be implemented, that would be awesome.
