There is a possible AIM/ICQ connection problem. We're getting reports on irc about it, and some of the Miranda folks are as well. I'm also seeing sporadic reports of problems from Pidgin as well.
We've already received about 10 emails regarding password problems on aim/icq.
To be perfectly clear, this is something we have no control over. This is a problem with the servers that AOL maintains for the AIM and ICQ protocols. It would be like telling a crab boat captain on the Bering Sea to control the waters. This is not something we can help with, unfortunately. It's just something we can watch.

This problem has been reported for several other clients, including the official ICQ client. Several days ago I read about it on a technical-news site (sorry, it's in german), which cited an AOL official saying: the problems will be solved "soon". But that was several days ago ...
I've had these problems with AIM, testing with every client at my disposal.
Usually, when there's connection issues, I go straight to the source. Adium has been strong in that area since even the early betas.
So uh. Keep up the good work, and AOL needs to get their act together.

Would it be possible to do something about Adium deleting passwords from the keychain when such connection problems occur? I just had the "enter your password" dialog pop up for my AIM account, and my AIM password was gone from my keychain :(
Couldn't it be possible that AOL changed the AIM and ICQ protocols - and Adium now is incompatible?
ICQ says on its website: "No network problems. If something goes wrong, we'll let you know here."

FYI - The best way to tell if it's Adium or the service (AIM, ICQ, MSN) that is the problem is to simply try to connect to the service with a different protocol.
If Adium is having issues with AIM/AOL, try iChat (everyone has iChat, since it's installed with the OS, but not everyone has the official 'AOL AIM chat client' hence the suggestion for iChat).
If you can't connect fine with iChat, then it might be Adium.
At the moment, AIM is messed up. Well, not for me :) But when there are only 2 contacts online out of many, and several of them never turn off AIM, you know something is wrong with AIM.
Just a helpful tip - don't blame Adium unless you tested the waters elsewhere.

I can connect fine with the iChat client, but not with Adium. Interestingly enough, I can use Adium to connect to a .Mac account which also appears to use the AOL server, but my AIM credentials just don't work. Says "incorrect password" each time. Same credentials also let me login to AIM Web interface so I don't think I'm mistyping anything.
so far the program works great for me except that I can't connect my yahoochat. I have no oddities in my SN. no dashes, underscores, spaces etc. It just won't connect. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I've scoured the website and found nothing of help so far.

Same issue... MSN's not working. As well, hotmail will not let me login using Safari; only Firefox. Seems like something changed on their end...

Hi,
I noticed someone else having the same problem I am...that my icon, though I set it through my preferences does not appear to any of my contacts. I am using an AIM account. Did anyone else have this problem and any luck with fixing it?

Same problems on AOL, not recieving message replys etc. iChat is workin fine (well if thats what you can call it...) so it seems like AOL is up to no good like usual.
